This sculpture study was inspired by a museum visit where I had the opportunity to observe the original artwork up close and gather a large collection of reference photos. Experiencing the piece in person motivated me to recreate it as a digital sculpture and explore its forms, anatomy, and dynamic composition.
The project began in ZBrush, where I sculpted the entire piece and refined the major and secondary forms before adding the final details. Once the sculpt was completed, the model was decimated and prepared for UVs and texturing.
For the texturing process, I brought the asset into Substance 3D Painter. To achieve a richer surface quality and preserve fine detail across the sculpture, I used a tileable workflow to enhance the material definition. All texture maps were then generated and exported from Substance Painter.
The final presentation was rendered in Arnold.
For the final presentation, I explored two different material interpretations of the sculpture. This allowed me to study how different surface qualities and materials can influence the mood, readability, and overall visual impact of the same sculpture.
This project was a great opportunity to study classical sculpture, anatomy, and the expressive movement found in traditional artworks.
